Blog: Marcelo Borelli | A Film a Day

Meet Marcelo Borelli is a filmmaker based out of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Currently, he is embarking on a film a day project and is approximately 20 films into the project. Here are two films from the project as well as a little write-up. When Marcelo is a little further into the project, I will be get him to share some of his experiences!

About Marcelo

My name is Marcelo Borelli, I´m 27 years old and I´m from Americana, a small town close to Sao Paulo, Brazil. I have always been passionate about the cinema world. It has been 5 years now since I started to work as an editor. I try to follow all that happens on the market.

A few months ago I decided to adventure myself in the world of HDSLRs. I bought a Canon 5D MII with a lens Canon EF 24-105mm 1:4 and some gear, like a tripod, a steady cam, a slider and a lightning kit. For the first time I was producing my own material. By the fact of being a really beginner on the area of shooting, I started to study hours per day to try to improve my knowledge and performance.

About two months ago I came to know through the site of Phillip Bloom (a professional whom I admire) the work of Preston Kanak called “3 Minute Shorts” and I was fascinated with the concept of the project and the quality of the material.

Then I thought really seriously on the possibility to start a similar project on my own, since it would be a very good way to improve myself and to practice harder. After thinking about it, I decided to adapt the project to my reality, because unfortunately I do not have as much time as I would like to dedicate myself to this project. So I decided to make a sequence of 1 minute shorts on a daily basis, for one year.

I’m currently on day 24 of the project, and I can say it has been quite a journey! Despite still facing some difficulties and have a lot to improve, I already feel a natural evolution and a familiarity in handling the equipment. I really recommend for you that, like me, is desiring to do a better job as a filmmaker to try a project like this.

I really hope to accomplish this project at all, and I’m sure I’ll be a better filmmaker at the end of this one year.

As the purpose of this project is to improve myself and get to a better level, it would be very valuable if I could get from you guys a sincere and constructive feedback about my work!

And Preston, I want to thank you again for the inspiration!

Let´s film!

Pretty good Marcelo. You keep doing well as usual. I remember some videos that you made for Nazareno and CJ, but now you have improved a lot. I have seen the all your videos and i could see a high quality which is pretty professional. Keep going man. Great job.
