Initial Reactions
Shape recently released the first ever F65 rig. I have yet to try it but it looks very enticing. One of the main features I am excited for is the way in which you are able to go from sticks to over the shoulder with just one click. I currently own the Shape Composite Stabilizer and absolutely love it’s build quality and functionality. I have produced an assembly and overview video and you can view that by clicking here. Out of all the rigs I have used, this rig is by far the best bang for your buck — a rig that I will have for the rest of my life. I cannot wait to try out the new F65 rig.
I also recently got their follow focus system and will be doing a feature on it within the next week.

St. Hubert, Quebec, Canada – December 8, 2011 – Sony of Canada Ltd. approached SHAPE wlb Inc., the largest Canadian camera equipment manufacturer, to design the first shoulder rig for its latest digital camera: the SONY F65. The new SHAPE® shoulder rig is specially designed for professional filmmakers in film and TV industry.
Spotlight on Innovation
Since its creation in 2007, SHAPE wlb has developed 7 product lines and over 40 accessories to meet the needs of photo and video enthusiasts as well as prosumers and professionals. In a few years, the company founded by Mylène Girard and her partner Charles Vallières, has built an enviable reputation worldwide. These 2 young entrepreneurs, both 36 years-old, worked in the cinema field for 15 years before they created their first shoulder rig in 2003.
“I believe that SHAPE’s technological innovation, price-quality ratio, customer service and lifetime warranty on its products have earned the company respect and trust from the industry. Sony of Canada is a living proof of that trust by offering us to design the first shoulder rig for the new Sony F65,” said Mrs. Girard, President of SHAPE wlb.
“Our QUICK HANDLE patented technology differentiates us from the competition with our unique, high-precision rosette mechanism. You simply have to push and hold the red buttons individually for a 360° handle rotation. Once the buttons are released, the handles stay firmly in place for great support,” added Mrs. Girard.
“In addition, we are currently working on a new innovative product line which will be presented at the NAB tradeshow in Las Vegas in April 2012 (National Association of Broadcasters), concluded Charles Vallières, Operations Vice-President and co-owner of SHAPE.
The Montreal Gazette also did a feature on this rig. Click here to view it.
